The Pittsburgh Music Ecosystem: Town Hall Part 2

Five years ago, Don Pitts conducted a comprehensive study on Pittsburgh’s music ecosystem, supported by organizations like The Heinz Endowments and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. This study gave voice to the local music community, with over 1,800 respondents sharing their insights on five key areas: Leadership, Career, Industry, Policy, and Audience. Their feedback painted a picture of economic struggle and frustration within this complex, interconnected network of creative and business professionals.

While efforts to implement changes began, the impact of COVID-19 slowed progress, and post-pandemic, familiar challenges resurfaced: a lack of community, direction, and dwindling funding. Our upcoming discussion seeks to reignite the conversation, revisit the study’s valid recommendations, and take actionable steps toward building a sustainable music ecosystem.

Goals :

Identify Immediate Action Steps:

  • Prioritize key recommendations that can be acted on immediately with available resources.
  • Focus on areas that have the highest potential for impact, such as leadership development, policy changes, and community-building initiatives.

Establish a Task Force:

  • Form a group of diverse stakeholders to lead the implementation of recommendations.
  • Designate clear roles, responsibilities, and a timeline for the next steps.
